Juveniles Charged For Making ‘Soda Bottle Bombs’

HARFORD COUNTY, MD (April 22, 2013) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged three juveniles with making and detonating six chemical reaction devices, “soda bottle bombs” on the property of the Harford Day School located at 715 Moores Mill Road in Bel Air, Maryland. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at approximately 5:00 p.m.

A joint investigation conducted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bel Air Police Department revealed three male youths, two 13-year-olds and one 12-year-old from Bel Air were responsible for making and detonating the devices on school property. All three youths confessed to taking part in the incident and explained they had learned of the devices on the internet. No injuries or property damage was reported as result of this incident.

A tax on medical devices that almost nobody likes

You don’t often hear about a 79-to-20 vote in the U.S. Senate. But that’s exactly what happened last night. The chamber voted overwhelmingly to repeal a tax on medical devices which was designed to generate $ 30 billion over 10 years to help pay for the Affordable Care Act.

Medical device makers are complaining the tax hurts them more than the rest of the medical and insurance industry. While hospitals, drug and insurance companies will pay or give up revenue as part of the reforms, they also stand to benefit as new customers enter the system. But the medical device industry argues most of their customers are already insured or covered by Medicare.

The vote to repeal the tax was largely symbolic. But it does show how unpopular the measure is, with both Republicans and Democrats coming out against it.
